I had my previous version of this toaster for more than 15 years and loved it. When I replaced it with the shinny new version I had immediate difficulties with the toast function. There was a fire inside the oven and even with the door opened and the timer forced to the off position the heater element kept burning extremely high heat. It is defective. It’s not that the setting was wrong or the timing was wrong or that there was grease or crumbs burning-none of that. It’s the heating elements themselves or wiring or something that is very dangerous. If I had not been standing nearby there would no doubt have been a house fire. This product should be immediately recalled. I gave it one star because the review won’t go through with out a rating. If I could give it a skull and cross bones it would be more appropriate. Please take care.
I would not recommend this toaster oven.
I, too, had an old, little B&D toaster oven that worked a charm. It was small and efficient and did a great job of toasting, broiling and generally heating things up.
We replaced our toaster oven with what I thought was the updated version of our older model when we started having electrical problems with the old one. I knew I didn’t want a modern, mega-toaster oven, many of which take ages just to heat themselves up, much less the food.
I have been pretty disappointed in this model.
The most aggravating parts of the model are the controls. The upper control allows you to select a range from Warm to 400/450, and then Toast, and then Broil. It’s a little knob that twists around and doesn’t have any ‘notches’ in it, so it’s easy to miss the Toast setting. Stupid.
Then the other problem, the one everyone else is complaining about, is the lower control. It is a timer that allows you to choose, in increasing order, Light, Medium, Dark, 10, 20, 30, etc. I don’t know who ever uses it for any real length of time. I generally use the 10 minute or less setting and I stay there. If you don’t watch the food, it will burn very quickly. The fire hazard that everyone keeps discussing is that if you set it for a very low setting, the timer knob will get close to the end but won’t ever ‘Ding!’ and therefore will just stay on without ticking down the minutes any more. Not cool.
And, if you turn the damn thing off a little too eagerly in a fit of frustration, you can turn the small knob just a little too far past OFF to ALWAYS ON. Um, who needs an toaster oven with an ‘Always on’ option when 10 minutes burns everything? I have walked away from the thing on more than one occasion only to discover that I turned it ‘Always on’ rather than ‘Off’. How reassuring.
This toaster oven is also incapable of making toast, which doesn’t really bother me as I use it more like an oven than a toaster, but it may be important to you. I think the problem is the controls plus the different distances between the food and the heating elements.
Additionally, the door can be a little tricky. The door has a hinge that automatically pulls the rack out a little ways, and it’s poorly designed, so it can stick when opening or closing.
So, this little guy is not the little guy they were selling in the 80s and 90s. It’s an “improved” piece of crap and I look forward to replacing mine soon.

We wanted a toaster oven that was small similar to the one we received as a wedding gift years ago. This model seemed to be close in size and features. What a disappointment! The knob to set the timer is really difficult for the kids to turn. If you don’t stand there and watch your item being toasted, good chance it will be burnt! The kids hate this toaster oven and I am not pleased with its performance either. It heats up food okay and cooks small items fine. We should probably get a regular toaster for the kids so I don’t have to babysit the toaster oven every time we toast something! This toaster oven redefines light,medium, and dark. We just set it to light everytime so our bread and poptarts don’t turn black!
I received this thing as a ‘house warming’ gift. How ironic.
My smoke alarm just went off, and thank god it did. I was making toast inside this thing, got distracted, and it didn’t shut off.
The whole condo was filled with smoke and the toast was literally on fire. I have never seen toast as black as my heart until tonight, and I’m pissed.
I pray that no one has their life destroyed by one of these things.
As a Christmas gift my kds love this one! I had a similar product growing up in the 70′s and 80′s and wanted my kids to experience the same fun I had. The overall product is a little fragile but as long as yo treat it with care it lasts for a long time. We have had ours now for 7 months and the kids have continued their learning process of following directions and being paient as well as safety procedures from the heat. However, the manufacturer has provided necessary equipment to be safe. We mix colors of goo and create some of the coolest creaures and I highly suggest for you to experience the same fun with your kids.
This oven is very cute, but not very durable. The on/off switch jammed and broke within a year of use so it had to be tossed. Plus, it uses something as weird as a 60 watt candelabra bulb to bake the bugs. Wow. It does work well though, when the switch is working, and bakes really cute bugs. The only downside I can say from it is that it’s hard to really tell when they’re done since the bugs are completely enclosed within the machine the entire time they’re baking. This is not at all like the open version we had in the 60s. If you can, honestly, get on an online auction site and try to get a 60s thingmaker machine and the molds. You’ll be happier with the results. If you cannot, this works fine but just remember to buy a bunch of bulbs because they do burn out quickly since they kids will use this thing nonstop once they get one! This is greatly, grealy loved in our house and I do recommend it with the above limitations. In addition, if you’re looking for more goop and can’t find it, try the online auction site with an e. We’ve used their goop and have had very nice results with it. The goop is hard to find, even amazon didn’t have it at Christmas this year. Don’t know why either!
This is one of the worst toys I have ever ordered. I ordered this because I had Creepy Crawlers as a child. It is not like Creepy Crawlers was in that it is made very poorly. My husband and I spent hours trying to get it to work but it never worked. We realized it is not really made to work well or in our case at all. There is no customer service for this company. I can see why. This is a complete waste of money and I do not think Amazon should not even sell it. I had to throw it out. Of course it was very frustrating for the children when it did not work after hours of trying and attempts to try to find out how to get in touch with customer service.
My 5 year old loves this product. The refill goo is a little on the pricy side, but we will order it anyhow. I have not fiugred out the exact time for the bugs to cook under the light bulb, but after about 7 min the machine began to put off a foul odor, i guess they are done… lol!! One thing you must know is : You will need a 100 watt bulb, it does not come with the oven!! I had a bit of a tough time finding a regular light bulb that was not energy efficiant!!

I really like this book. I have owned a rotisserie oven for a few years, this book gives me new ideas of using the oven. It includes recipes for chicken, turkey, beef roast, pork roast, and RIBS (p.115to 120, 4 recipes, not quite sure why the other customer said it doesn’t)
This book has worked out great with the new ronco rotisserie I bought for Christmas. It has a lot of different types of meals and everyone that I have tried so far has turned out awesome. The book and the rotisserie put together make cooking a breeze. It has even brought the rest of the family together. Each week someone will pick a different recipe out of the book and try their hand at cooking. So far everything has turned out great!!!
This cookbook has interesting recipes for my new rotisserie, but many appear to have ingredients I just don’t have on my shelves, and I cook a lot of unusual dishes. Also, I was looking for quicker menus to put together, after all, it isn’t just for my health that I wanted my rotisserie. There seems to be a lot of prep time for many recipes. I will use the book for some things, but “The Ultimate Rotisserie Cookbook” is more to my liking.
Ribs, either pork or beef, were not covered in this book. I needed a timetable for ribs as well as some marinades.
