Ovens at Home

So there you are. You just got home from your over-eaters-anonymous meeting and are busy baking a big trey of chocolate brownies with real chocolate morsels baked right inside of them, when your GE oven suddenly goes on the blink. After you finish eating the half cooked brownies with a spoon, you pull the damn oven out and can plainly see what the problem is. There is a little thing that is screwed to another thing that is broken in half.

Fix it - Don't Replace it

So what now? You call the local GE place and all that they want to do is sell you a new GE oven. They recommend a repair guy but he wants maytag oven to charge you the price of two weeks of groceries. The good news is that there are now plenty of options on line so don't despair.

Get the Part Number

Simply write down the parts number that is on the thing that is broken. If it doesn't have a parts number on it, then go to the GE company website and locate the exact model of GE oven that you have. You can find the model number somewhere on it. Now locate and pull up a “blown up” schematics of your GE oven and find your part.

Check With Online Sources

So, now you have your part number and your model number. Now simply go to any one of the online sources for new and used GE oven parts and order what you need. Remember however, to save all the screws, washers and gaskets from your old part in case new ones don't come with your replacement part.

A Few Good Tips

Don't force anything apart that seems to be stuck. Go to an auto parts store and ask the guy at the desk what sprays and goops that have for loosening things up. Also, keep everything that you remove in separate bags and label everything. Remember to write a little map of where every part came from as you take it off, so you can use your map to put your oven back together again.
